Dr. Daniel Elchert
Thank you for visiting my webpage. My name is Dr. Daniel Elchert and I’m a licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia.

I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Iowa (APA-accredited), and have experience in university, hospital, and community mental health settings. Much of my past clinical work has focused on unique issues facing young adults and college students, as well as adolescents and their families.

For individual therapy, some of the issues I have experience and interest in working with include:

Anxiety
Depression

Grief and Loss
Relationship Issues

Men's Issues and Masculinities
Vocational or Work Related Challenges
Transitions & Major Life Changes
(transition to/from college, new job, new phase in life, etc.)

When working with clients, I strive to form collaborative relationships built on trust and a commitment to make change. I focus on listening to concerns, forming a warm, therapeutic relationship, and eventually identifying goals that define the scope of therapy. To meet these goals I apply interpersonal process and cognitive-behavioral therapies, which are theories that prioritize lived experiences in the present moment. Through it all, my intent is to encourage greater self-awareness while assisting clients to take meaningful changes out of the therapy room. Clients experience me as empathetic, receptive to feedback, and open to delivering direct, clear opinions when requested. During therapy, I often invite clients to reflect on how identity and cultural background influence their personal experiences in addition to the therapy process.

I offer all clients a 30 minute phone or video conference consultation, free of charge.
Following this consultation, my fee is $190 per 55-minute session.
